A gate is a shaping tool.

Signal shaping / Transient and tone design

A gate has always been sold as a cleanup tool — set a threshold, remove what falls below it, move on. So that's how it gets used: defensively, to take something away. But the envelope a gate imposes is the sound. How fast the front edge arrives, how long the body is allowed to hold, how the tail falls away, how much weight the transient carries — those are the same decisions a designer makes on purpose, and a gate makes them on every note whether you intended it or not. Engineers have been making sound-design choices with a cleanup mindset, on a signal they can't see, with a tool that never showed them what it was drawing.

VisualGate puts the signal and the shape you're imposing on it in the same picture. Input, output, and the envelope itself are drawn together, so you're not reading a gain-reduction meter and imagining the rest — you watch the curve you're building land on the waveform that triggered it. The threshold is a line you drag onto the signal. Attack, hold, and release are the shape under your hand, redrawing as you move them. Knee and S-curve decide how the edge arrives — hard and percussive, or eased in. Accent puts weight back into the front of a note. And A-Gain doesn't just make what passes through louder: switch it from Linear to Saturation or Overdrive and the material you kept gets driven, so the shaping and the colour happen in one move instead of two plugins. Ambience decides how much space stays behind the shape, so a tightened part still sits in a room instead of a vacuum.

A curve, not a line.

Frequency-selective dynamics control

Most Dynamic EQ makes you set where the problem is — a threshold, a band, a fixed rule — before it ever hears the signal. EQOMP does it the other way around: it traces the actual signal, up to 2,048 points per buffer, to find where the problem is and follow it as it moves.

Instead of asking you to set a threshold and hoping it matches the signal, EQOMP traces the signal first. Every band you place becomes a listening reference — a point from which EQOMP tracks moving energy and harmonic structure in the actual audio — and the threshold curve it builds follows what it finds, not a rule you guessed in advance.

Harmonic processors are usually a drive knob and a promise. You can hear that something changed, but not which harmonics moved or how much — so the only way to work is by repeated A/B.
